UMA Offers Consultation Services for Faith-based Organizations

UMA’s Field Consultation Program offers members the ability to consult with experienced professionals from the field of health and human service ministries. The Program provides several services that may be helpful to you and to your organization. Please call the UMA office if you are interested in any of the following services.

In 2010, UMA conducted six boards of governance trainings and board best practice consultations. The Vocation of the Trustee (VOT) workshop is available to all governing boards of faith-based, not-for-profit organizations. VOT has seven interactive workshops focused on developing effective, faith-based governance boards. Called to God’s Work; The Basics; Developing an Effective Board; Creating Effective Meetings; Thinking, Planning and Acting Strategically; Selecting and Appointing the Chief Executive; Partnering with Your Chief Executive can be used as a series or individually to fit your training goals.

FCP offers Individualized Peer Consultation when specific information and support is needed. Highly respected faith-based professionals are retained by the Association to provide this service. For example, an organization experiencing occupancy difficulty could be provided a consultant with marketing expertise to assist in devising a strategy to increase applications.

Many of our members have found the solutions they were looking for by networking with fellow UMA members. For example, a children’s home needing information about a volunteer training program could be put in touch with a home that we know has a successful program. We were successful in making a number of member-to-member referrals for those seeking specific information. UMA members have said that the value of these networking opportunities is immeasurable.

UMA partnered with NetSmart University several years ago and created UMA University to help our members find cost-effective alternatives to their staff training needs. This program includes a wide range of Web-based, classroom and onsite training options. It offers a premier learning management system for behavioral healthcare that permits UMA University participants a way to effectively manage their own training and development initiatives.

In addition to online training, the program offers UMA University participants access to hundreds of online courses in behavioral healthcare, safety, and compliance, many with CEUs (continuing education units) available. The comprehensive learning and management system allows participants the ability to build and monitor professional development plans for employees. Skills and competencies can also be measured and reviewed across the workforce.
